A Donut and a Dream
written by C. Carson Parks II

Lyrics:

One cup of coffee, waitress, ain't quite enough.

This highway life ain't what it seems.

Tonight I find the roadbed pretty rough.

Give me a donut and a dream.

I think she likes me and I ought to hang around

Then I get to thinking I should try another town.

I've tried to live one roadside diner at a time.

Just pour it black, I don't take cream.

Life must be something more than one cup for a dime.

And tonight I need a donut and a dream.

Oh, I think she likes me and I ought to hang around

But then I get to thinking I should find another town in the morning.

Life must be something more than one cup for a dime

Oh just pour it black, I don’t take cream

One cup of coffee, waitress, ain't quite enough

Tonight I need a donut and a dream.

Tonight I need a donut and a dream.

Carson's Remarks:

There was a certain period in the late 60s and early 70s where there was a spate of truck driving songs. None seemed to have much emotion, so I tried to fill that gap, although I don't know a "Granny Gear" from a "Granny Smith!" This was the title tune from an album The Mills Brothers did in 1972 (Paramount Records #PAS 6038)
