Build Me a Statue in the Park
written by C. Carson Parks II

Lyrics:

Chorus:

Build Me a Statue In The Park

Dedicate it to the biggest fool in town

And light it up each evening when it’s dark

‘Cause that’s the time of day you turned me down.

Vs. #1

Oh, give me half a heart of stone

So it won’t hurt me anymore

That’s all the heart I’m used to when I’m standing all alone

The other half went with you out the door.

Repeat (Chorus)

Vs. #2

Don’t set me up on any horse.

No thoroughbred like General Lee

The front end don’t fit my personality

And the other end’s there already in the form of me.

Repeat (Chorus)

Vs. #3

Give me a hat that’s large of brim

So all the birds can sit thereon

And they will treat me just the way you used to do

And life will be the same after I’m gone.

Repeat (Chorus)

Carson's Remarks:

I guess this must have been written about the time of "Another Fine Mess" and the like, but I was pondering what might be deposited on the head of General Lee! It was fun writing it, and you'll never believe the verses I threw away!
